s painting of Royal Air Force Wing Commander Bob Stanford-Tuck leading his flight of Spitfires into the air above Biggin Hill fighter airfield for a sweep over northern France in 1942 during World War II. It was issued in an edition of 850 signed and numbered prints, and this is number 677.
The print is signed below the image by the artist—Robert Taylor—and British ace Wing Commander Bob Stanford-Tuck.
Robert Roland Stanford-Tuck (1916-1987) was a British fighter pilot and commander who flew missions over France until early 1942 when he was downed by anti-aircraft fire and taken prisoner by the Germans. He claimed 29 victories and was awarded the DSO, DFC and two bars.
This print is numbered “677/850” to the right of Robert Taylor’s signature. “Printed by Taylor Bloxham Ltd., Leicester, England” appears at upper left and “Published by the Military Gallery, Bath, England” at upper right.
This print has never been framed; it has been stored flat since it was issued. It is as new
